2009

Children

Ngoye (9 years), Fatou (5 years), Serigne Mbacké (½ years)

Ngoye (9 years) is still malnourished. Petite Cobi Foundation has put the support on hold for a while, since her mother did not adhere to what was agreed. At the moment has been agreed that mother will bring Ngoye at least each two months to a medical facility to weigh her. The foundation covers the expenses for prescribed medication and vitamins. The same agreement applies for Fatou (5 years old) and Serigne Mbacké (6 months old), the younger sister and brother of Ngoye. Both are malnourished and not healthy.

Souleymane

Born: 2009. Deceased: 2010.
October 2009 Souleymane had surgery for hydrocephalus. The surgery was planned at an earlier date, however his parents were not able to pay for the expenses. Petite Cobi Foundation covered the costs because surgery at an early age offers better prospects. The surgery of Souleymane went well.  To our great sorrow however, he died in May 2010 after a short illness caused by an infection.

Cheikh (2 years)

Born: 2007
Also Cheikh has a hernia. His parents were able to cover the costs of a few analysis, however they were not able to pay for the surgery. At the end of 2009 some analysis have been repeated and the surgery is scheduled at the begin of 2010.

Mame Binta junior

Born: 2009

Mame Binta, mother of Mame Debo (one of  the children the foundation has supported) died while giving birth. The family did not agree to hospitalize the newborn (Mame Binta Junior) in a pouponnière. A pouponnière is a home where children up to 10-12 months are cared for, after which they return home to their family. Negotiating with the family has been problematic because of the distance: they live 150 kilometers from Tivaouane. The foundation has provided four cans of powdered milk.

Serigne Fallou (4 years)

Born: 2005
This little boy has had a few consults because he had severe bowel problems. Surgery was planned for, however his parents took him to a traditional healer in the meantime. Afterwards he no longer experienced problems. A doctor at the hospital has confirmed that the boy has been cured.

Woré (16 years)

Born: 1992.

Woré, a teenager, is suffering from severe heart problems. Her family was able to pay for the needed analysis and medication and asked the Foundation to help out in the costs for the surgery. This has been paid for in 2009 but has been carried out in April 2010 due to failing equipment and a strike at the hospital.

Alassane

This boy has been sick for a while. He had abscesses in his legs which have not been treated properly which caused severely inflamed hips. Due to the inflammation he is not able to stand nor sit up. In 2008 he has been treated at the hospital of Dakar for a few months where he got surgery for his hips. For a while his situation improved; he was able to sit up for a few hours a day. Unfortunately at the end of 2009 he got bedsores and had problems with his catheter. The foundation is trying to arrange an appointment at the hospital in Thiès.

Mamour (7 years)

Born: 2002

Mamour has lost both his legs in a train accident. He has received help from the Foundation several times now. Because he grows quite fast he needed new prostheses in 2009. Now he is attending school, he received prostheses with a hinge, so he can keep his prosthese on while sitting.

Moussely Diop

This year a single mother with a three year old daughter received help from Petite Cobi Foundation. The mother lost both her parents and has no brothers or sisters. She lives in a cottage without sanitary facilities. The community has collected money to pay for a lavatory. The foundation contributed by covering the costs of three bags of cement. Expenses: EUR 17,83.
