Being a boy of 17, one would like to play soccer with your friends, go to the disco and dance, or maybe studying hard for school exams. One thing one does not want to worry about is its health and whether there is enough money to pay the next health consult and medication.

Unfortunately this scenario is reality for Assane 17 years old from Tivaouane who suffers from heart failures. Up to date our foundation paid 178 euro on analyses and life saving drugs improving his health. He will need to continue his treatment, and therefore we ask your support:

Petite Cobi Foundation, founded in 2006 by students and young professionals, is committed to medical care for mothers and children in Senegal. The foundation contributes to this goal through the construction of a dispensary in the region Terokh/Yendane and the reimbursement of hospital expenses for severely ill, malnourished and/or handicapped children.

We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to support our board. As a board member you will be co responsible for managing and representing the foundation. Tasks of the board are, amongst others:
– designing and executing fund raising activities
– preparing annual reports
– contributing to the quarterly newsletter
– securing external grants

The board gathers 4-6 times a year. The time commitment fluctuates somewhat, but is estimated at 1-2 hours a week on average. Since the board meetings are usually digital, your place of residence is not of great relevance.

Mamadou Lamine

Mamdou lamineDe vakantie loopt ten einde, ook voor Stichting Petite Cobi. Achter de schermen zijn wij druk aan de slag: zo is afgelopen week Mamadou Lamine van 18 maanden met succes geopereerd aan zijn liesbreuk. Het kleine mannetje maakt het goed!!

Consultatiebureau

Ook onze inzet met betrekking tot het consultatiebureau gaat door! Begin december 2014 is er een officieel bezoek gebracht aan de verantwoordelijke voor gezondheidszorg in de dorpen Terokh en Yendane door de voorzitter en de lokale vrijwilligers in Senegal, Mbaye Dione en Cheikh Diouf. Terokh en Yendane vallen onder de jurisdictie van Pambal en de “médecin chef” (leidinggevende arts) heeft na mooie woorden van dank voor de constructie van het centrum plechtig beloofd er voor te zorgen dat er maandelijks een spreekuur gehouden wordt. En er is woord gehouden: vanaf januari 2015 is er twee keer per maand spreekuur waaronder vaccinaties. Het eerste begin is er!

BabacarBabacar van 4 jaar heeft al vanaf zijn geboorte last van zijn stoelgang. Met enige regelmaat heeft hij last van hevige  constipatie. Momenteel ondergaat hij enkele analyses waaruit duidelijk moet worden wat de oorzaak is. Een mogelijke oorzaak is de ziekte van Hirsprung, waarbij de zenuwen in een gedeelte van de darmen niet goed werken. Binnenkort hopen wij meer te weten.

SaraVoor kleine Sara begon 2015 niet zo goed, begin januari is de moeder van het meisje van 6 maanden overleden. Omdat de oorzaak niet geheel duidelijk was, hebben we haar laten onderzoeken op HIV/AIDS en gelukkig was de test negatief. Met de zorg van haar tante en wat hulpgoederen van Stichting Petite Cobi maakt de kleine meid het goed.

Hakim

Kleine Hakim uit Burkina Faso gaat goed vooruit; met behulp van prothesen en aangepaste schoenen leert hij langzaam opnieuw lopen. Als dreumes was hij compleet gezond maar helaas raakte hij gedeeltelijk de controle over zijn spieren kwijt door hersenvliesontsteking. Met medicijnen en fysiotherapie gaat het al een stuk beter!
