Dispensary

IMG_0028

The first major project of Petite Cobi Foundation is building a parent-child centre in the two neighbouring villages Terokh and Yendane. In this parent-child centre children can be weighed monthly. Through this, mothers gain a better insight in the growth and health of their children. Malnourished children can receive milk powder in order to gain weight. Furthermore, education and information sessions will be organized. The parent-child centre will have a signaling function as well. In case of illness or malnutrition of children can be intervened quickly. Also, volunteers can support families in arranging hospital appointments for ill children. The parent-child centre is built in close cooperation with the local population and government. This can ensure the continuing of the centre in the future without the support of external funding.

Foundations, doors & windows

In November 2009 construction is started, the foundation of the building is constructed, walls, doors and windows made.

The roof

IMG_0028DSCN6316 Mid December 2012, we commissioned the placing the roof on the dispensary. After   some delays due to unavailability of the contractor and stock out of some materials, the works started only in April 2013. Currently the roof is placed and the constructors is working hard to place the windows, doors and electricity cables. IMG_0004

The cost of construction is slightly cheaper because the iron (for construction) dropped in price and the transport was regulated by the local citizens. They also supported the water needed for construction. About the cost of placing the roof you can read more below. The cost of the windows and doors are slightly more expensive, partly because in the budget no transport costs were calculated and slightly more iron than has been budgeted was necessary. Included in the cost of the separate toilet block is the final payment to the contractor of 200,000 CFA. Actual cost of toilet are so 293,000 CFA = 450 Euros At present Terokh / Yendane do not have electricity, but it is hoped that this will be built the coming years. Therefore, electricity cables were made in the centre. Budget versus Actual Costs For the Roof Total costs for placing the roof were €2.609,23. In the table below the costs are specified. The costs were slightly higher than budgeted. This is partly due to a rise in prices for iron construction hooks and skids. Furthermore this is caused by unforeseen costs for cement, sand and labour to make extra stones for placing the roof. Labour costs for the welder were overlooked as well. The placement of the roof is supported by Maduradom Foundation with a donation of €2.000. Petite Cobi Foundation is thankful for Madurodam Foundation’s support to a healthy future for mother and child!
